Movement of bees

There are no longer any restrictions on movement of bees and hives within NSW.  As per the Code of Practice, beekeepers are required to keep records of details of movements of hives (including swarm catch boxes), including dates, numbers,
geographic locations for at least 3 years.

Movements interstate

The Biosecurity Order (Permitted Activities) 2019 sets out the circumstances in which hives, bees and apiary products can be moved into NSW from another state or territory. Any equipment, bees or apiary products known to be contaminated with American foulbrood cannot be brought into NSW. See the Order for exceptions.

If you would like to move bees or hives outside of NSW, check with the relevant jurisdictional authority for where you plan to move to, for any movement restrictions and or requirements.
