NSW dairy and fresh food supply report
The Securing NSW dairy and fresh food supply report (PDF, 559.38 KB) outlines the key obstacles faced by dairy and fresh food producers in NSW, along with actions to address these obstacles.
The report was informed through consultation with stakeholder representatives from peak industry bodies within the livestock, dairy, horticulture and seafood industries, to identify key industry constraints.
Work has commenced to address supply risks and constraints raised, including promoting issues at the national level, investment in targeted research and development initiatives, and refreshment of existing delivery programs in line with the needs of the dairy and fresh food sector. Some key actions already undertaken in response to the report findings include:
- Commit to the continued implementation of the NSW Dairy Industry Action Plan
- Refocus and expand the Farms of the Future program
- Development and release of a Marine Heatwave Response Plan to support industry adaptation
Further, the NSW Government has also committed to re-establishing the Dairy Action Plan Implementation Panel. An expression of interest (EOI) to appoint an Independent Chair (PDF, 147.09 KB) has been released to oversee the reinvigoration and delivery of the outstanding recommendations within the Plan. Additionally, the dairy and fresh food sector is being further supported through the recent establishment of two Independent Commissioner roles:
- Independent Biosecurity Commissioner Dr. Katherine Clift, to address issues relating to pests and weeds management, and
- Independent Agriculture Commissioner Ms. Alison Stone, to provide advice and recommendations to the NSW Government on agricultural matters, including productivity, land use conflict and food security.
