Fisheries Research provides scientific evidence to enable sustainable use and biodiversity conservation of the NSW marine estate and freshwater fish.
Our research:
- guides stewardship by providing evidence-based knowledge and advice to address key challenges;
- creates a foundation of knowledge for engagement, discussion and fair, informed decision making; and,
- harnesses curiosity and creativity to generate opportunities for discovery and innovation.
The procedures and practices implemented by Fisheries Research for collecting and maintaining fish, research techniques and operation of aquaculture facilities for the purpose of scientific research, are consistent with the objectives of the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes. Compliance is supported by A Guide to Acceptable Procedures and Practices for Aquaculture and Fisheries Research [Under Review] and the activities of NSW DPIRD Animal Care and Ethics Committees.
