The Low Emissions Agriculture (LEA) team delivers research, development, and extension (RD&E) services to support a sustainable, resilient, and climate-ready agricultural and land sector in New South Wales. We work across science, international and domestic policy, climate-related research in both plant, animal, soil and energy systems, and capacity-building education with farmers and landholders to develop and promote practical solutions that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while maintaining productivity and profitability.
Partnering with universities, government agencies, industry, and landholders, the LEA team provides support for farming businesses to adopt GHG emissions reduction and carbon sequestration practices and technologies. Our evidence-based policy advice helps shape a future where agriculture contributes toward NSW’s net zero targets.

Support the delivery of the NSW Net Zero Plan
Contribute to state, national and international climate change policy
Develop zero waste and circular economy opportunities
Contribute to R&D programs on emissions reduction and sequestration activities for farming businesses, in collaboration with industry, academia

Farmer and landholder engagement through extension, demonstrations, education and training to
Build knowledge in carbon farming
Increase landholder capacity to understand and baseline their GHG emissions
Adopt low emissions technologies and practices
Model climate impacts on primary production systems and landscapes to improve environmental, economic and social outcomes
Support adoption of renewable energy technologies and promote energy efficiency practices
