Hunt NSW app FAQ
The app requires iOS operating systems 16+ and Android operating systems 13+.
The app may work on other operating systems, however may not function as expected.
Note: Apple does not support any operating system version below 16. iOS 26 and Android 16 were not in scope for the app build at the time of contract.
Please ensure you’ve updated your phone’s operating system.
Your mobile device needs a minimum screen size of 375 pixels, such as an iPhone SE 3rd gen.
Supported devices include iPhone 12+ and, generally, any Android model from the last 3 years (there may be some exceptions).
The app can be used on mobile tablets, however is not optimised for that format.

In most cases, you'll be able to visit the Apple App Store or Google Play, find the app and select 'Update'.
If this doesn't work for you, please try deleting the old app (orange icon) and downloading the new app (blue icon).
In some cases, the app may automatically update.

If the Hunt NSW app isn't working for you, there are a few things you can try:
- make sure you’ve updated your phone’s operating system
- check you’ve downloaded the latest version of the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play
- check the username and password you’ve entered are correct
- clear your history, cookies and cache from your device’s settings
- restart your phone.

The app is tied to the Hunt NSW portal and requires your permission to perform certain functions and interact with your client profile. If you don’t grant the permissions, the app will not work.
Permissions include access to downloading files, interacting with the Hunt NSW database, use of cookies and access to check for network connection among others.
This app update prioritised a better mobile user experience for the most common activities. This means some functions are still limited to the portal version of Hunt NSW. We’ll keep building the app and adding new features into the future.
Yes, you can create, edit and submit public land and native game bird harvest returns while offline.
The downloads folder also ensures you always have access to your PDF written permission and other downloaded files.
Yes, provided you have downloaded the written permission PDF within the app while you had service. You can locate your downloaded permission in the downloads folder
When you complete a hunt booking, there are 2 file types available to download: .pdf and .kmz.
If you download your maps through the app, they are stored in the downloads folder and are available even when offline.
You can then import these maps into other apps, or on to a GPS-enabled device, to meet the mandatory mapping requirement.
Please note, the app does not have GPS capabilities.
To use the maps on another device:
- locate and open your file storage location on your mobile device
- select the ‘Hunt NSW’ file folder
- select the ‘hunting_maps’ folder
- select the map file to see other options such as sharing via email.
You can navigate away from or force close the app at any time and your downloaded data is retained.
However, if you ‘log out’ of the app, all your downloaded data is deleted to maintain your privacy. You’ll receive a warning if you select the ‘log out’ option.
There may be a lag in the app moving between online and offline modes. This occurs when the app is communicating with the hunting database. The length of time to switch between modes may also depend on your network stability or availability.
Please allow at least 60 seconds to move between modes. If the app continues to be unresponsive, you could try force closing the app and then reopening it.
Depending on the network stability or availability, it may take some time for the app to reload the right data, even if you close and reopen the app.
We were required to go to market and tender for a new hunting database provider. A new provider was appointed, a new database developed and the associated app also changed.
Only a small number of licence holders used the former app’s mapping functions to comply with the GPS requirement. Most hunters preferred to download and use a PDF map and they couldn’t do this within the previous app.
The new app now makes PDF and KMZ files available for download, which you can then use with a GPS-enabled PDF mapping app or GPS-enabled device.
Even though you can download PDF and KMZ map files within the app, the new app does not have the ability to act as a GPS device.
No, the mobile digital licence version is only available within the Hunt NSW app. You can take a screenshot of the app licence for use outside the app. You can also download a PDF digital licence through the portal and the app.
The app needs to connect with the hunting database and Hunt NSW portal. There may be a delay in generating the written permission PDF. A refresh button is available, which can be used if the permission does not generate within 30 seconds.
The app opens on the ‘My details’ page in the ‘My profile’ section.
- Select the next tab in the section ‘Licences’.
- Select ‘Manage profile’.
- An in-app browser page links you to the portal. Swipe to the far right side of the table and select ‘Renew’ from the ‘Action’ column.
- Complete the online form and submit.
Licence fee payments are made through the Service NSW payment portal. This portal does not function correctly inside the app. The ‘Make a payment’ menu option is only available by logging in to Hunt NSW though a browser.
