Special Native Game Bird Licence Conditions

NSW Game Hunting Licence holders who participate in the Native Game Bird Management Program are subject to special licence conditions. The native game bird conditions are attached to a letter that confirms the licence holder's eligibility to hunt native game birds under the program. These conditions apply in addition to standard licence conditions and other hunting rules.

The conditions were last updated in September 2025.

Current and future licence holders who are endorsed for the Native Game Bird Management Program must watch a new video tutorial. The tutorial teaches you how to comply with the native game bird special conditions.

If you are endorsed for native game bird hunting, you must watch the tutorial and complete the declaration to gain access to the portal. Access will become available to you after submitting the declaration. You only need to watch the video once.

Log in to Hunt NSW to watch the tutorial

The holder of a NSW Game Hunting Licence, who proposes to kill native game birds under the authority of a Native Game Bird Management (Owner/Occupier) Licence, must:

1. Native game bird total licence allocations

Before your hunt:

a. create a digital hunter diary online through the Hunt NSW portal (app or website) no more than 2 days before commencing your hunt. The digital diary must specify the Native Game Bird Management (Owner/Occupier) Licence number covering the property to be hunted and specify the total remaining number and type of native game birds that can be killed.

After your hunt:

b. submit a harvest return through the Hunt NSW portal (app or website), recording the total number and type of native game birds harvested before leaving the property

2. Other conditions

a. Only use a shotgun.
