Additional training for public land hunters
Between 2014 and 2025, NSW Restricted Game Hunting Licence (R-Licence) holders were required to complete some additional training, unless they had completed the online course. The online course was made available in 2022.
The additional training was introduced in 2014. The training gaps were identified in the 2013 public land hunting risk assessment review conducted by Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW).
The additional training covered important information that all R-Licence holders must know before hunting on public land, including:
- navigation
- general written permission conditions
- signs you may see in State forests.
The updated R-Licence Accreditation Course now includes this information. The updated course was made available online in 2022. Hunter LEAP Trainers began delivering the updated course in 2023.
R-Licence holders who didn't complete additional training
Some current and past R-Licence holders didn't complete the additional training requirements. There are also hunters who completed the old training course and never applied for a licence, who may wish to apply in the future.
All of these hunters need to complete the updated R-Licence Accreditation Course before we can issue or renew an R-Licence for them.
