Sunraysia progressive grower information and communication workshop: May 2017

NSW DPI and Sunraysia Citrus Growers want to improve the way the information, knowledge and skills needs of citrus growers are serviced. To explore these needs, progressive and innovative growers with at least 20 years of expected industry service were invited to participate in a workshop, which was held in May 2017  (Figure 1).

Workshop participants being facilitated by Stuart Putland.

Some of the key findings were:

  • Growers would like more ‘hands-on’ field days on other growers’ properties to help network and exchange information.
  • Citrus research organisations need to improve information access by making sure information is posted and presented in a ‘grower-friendly’ format on their websites.
  • More practical on-farm research needs to be conducted to examine how certain production practices and products perform under local conditions.
