Dr Mahmud Kare joins the DPI citrus team

Dr Mahmud Kare joins the DPI citrus team, taking a major role in the Australian National Tree Crop Intensification Program in Dareton

Dr Mahmud Kare and his family are settling in to Sunraysia after moving to the region from far-north Queensland. Mahmud previously worked for Queensland DAF in their efforts to intensify mango production and joins us in a similar role working with citrus. His expertise in light dynamics within crop canopies and how that drives productivity will allow us to deliver a deeper understanding of the mechanisms behind profitability in high density citrus plantings. Mahmud has already visited research experiments in the Riverina and across Sunraysia, meeting growers and researchers to understand the industry more. His work will focus on tree characteristics that could make them better suited to planting at high density, canopy light interception in pruning trials and on the performance of navel oranges trained to a trellis.
