    After 60 weeks of construction the new QC2 and QC3 laboratories at EMAI are almost ready to commission. Electricians, plumbers, painters, tilers and cleaners are putting the finishing touches on the new $35 million laboratories.

    The construction is well underway with the drilling of piles and pouring of concrete for the foundations of the new laboratories now completed. The stairwells and goods lift have been formed and concrete to complete these will be poured shortly.

    The $39.1 million contract for the construction of the new laboratories and the refurbishment of existing laboratories was awarded to Hooker Cockram on 4 March 2010
  • November 2009
    The design for the new and refurbished laboratories has been put out to tender. An early works contract for flood mitigation, electrical works and earthworks to prepare for the main construction was awarded in October.
  • September 2009
    The upgrade design reached a detailed development stage and pre-qualified tenderers were selected for the NSW Commerce project briefing, the Early Tenderers Involvement process. The project successfully went through a Gateway Pre-Tender review on 11 September.
  • June 2009
    Lab specialists Bio2IC conducted a review and confirmed facilities design meets regulatory standards; additional $13 million allocated by NSW Government.
  • February 2009
    Design architects S2F propose single building for PC2 and PC3 workspaces; business case for new funding developed and approved to go to the Budget Committee.
