Privacy collection notice

The personal information you provide is subject to the Privacy & Personal Information Protection Act 1998. It is being collected and held on behalf of NSW Hunting, which is part of the Fisheries and Forestry Group in the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), 105 Prince Street, Orange NSW 2800.

The information is being collected and will be used for hunting regulatory services under the Game and Feral Animal Control Act 2002 and its associated Regulation, such as licensing, hunter education and issuing of written permission to hunt on public land. Where we have your consent to do so, we may also use your proof of identity information to verify your identity documents with the Document Verification Service.

It is voluntary for you to provide your information however, if you choose not to provide the required personal information, the department may be unable to provide hunting regulatory services to you.

The Salesforce database incorporates artificial intelligence (AI); however, your information is not used for any independent decision-making or profiling.

Phone calls with the department may be recorded for information and training purposes and retained as evidence.

Information you provide may be disclosed to third parties for law enforcement and insurance purposes. Third parties may include NSW Revenue, NSW Police Force (including NSW Police Force Firearms Registry), insurance providers, Forestry Corporation of NSW, NSW National Parks and Wildlife, Victorian Game Management Authority and other agencies where appropriate.

NSW Hunting is partnered with Digital NSW (part of the Department of Customer Service) who assist us with our business operations by providing software and storing data on our behalf. Digital NSW have a Privacy Statement, which outlines their contact details and information about how they look after this data.

Digital NSW also provide us with access to the Document Verification Service so that we can check your identity documents and verify your identity. The Digital NSW Proof of Identity Privacy Collection Notice outlines how Digital NSW handle your data on our behalf when you grant us your consent to process an identity document check.

The department will not disclose your personal information without your consent unless required or authorised by law or as indicated in this Privacy Collection Notice or Privacy Management Plan.

The information is stored in Salesforce and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS) and will be destroyed after 10 years if the account is inactive.

You can access and correct the personal information held by the department via the Hunt NSW portal or by contacting the Customer Service Team at 1800 748 848 or hunting@dpird.nsw.gov.au.

Introduction

This privacy policy explains how the department collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use the Hunt NSW mobile application. We are committed to ensuring your privacy and protecting your personal data in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Information we collect

Device information: We collect a unique device ID for the purpose of sending push notifications to facilitate communication with our users.
Location data: The Hunt NSW app provides geofence monitoring and visual map display of location data. It is designed to work in Australia both online and offline and to provide visual and vibration alerts when entering and leaving designated hunting areas.
- To provide the visual and geofence services, the app requires use of location data. The app requests permissions at launch and if 'Background Location Permission' is not enabled the app will provide warnings, and options will be disabled.
- If the app user selects 'Location - When in Use', certain features will be disabled, and on-screen alerts will advise the app user of these. If the app user selects 'Location - Always', the app will retain use of the Location Services when the app is running in the background. This feature is desirable to those that wish to use the geofence and visual features that actively displays the path travelled on the map screen as you move. This data never leaves the device and track recording remains stored in the app on the device. If the app is uninstalled, this data is deleted from the device. Use of Background Location Tracking in our app minimises the use of battery life whilst retaining the ability to record and store the tracking.
Analytics and debugging: We collect data for analytics and debugging purposes to improve user experience and application performance. This may include information about app usage, crash reports, and other diagnostic data.
Account information: Users have an account that is obtained through the process of applying for a hunting licence. This personally identifiable information is associated with your device ID(s) to enable users to manage their personal information and, depending on licence types obtained, to book a hunt, access native game bird allocations and report harvests.

How we use your information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

To provide and maintain the application and its features.
To send you push notifications
To improve the application's performance and user experience through analytics and debugging.
To enable account management and synchronization of watch zones and notifications across devices.

Data retention and deletion

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

User rights

Users have the right to:
