Why was the closing date for applications extended?
The Plantations Fire Reference Group will consider additional priority projects following the withdrawal of a project application. The extension of the closing date will allow additional invited applicant/s to prepare and submit an application after receiving an invitation to apply.
What is the Plantation Fire Protection Fund Pilot?
The Plantation Fire Protection Fund will deliver fire prevention, detection and response works through a closed, non-competitive grants program.
The objectives of the fund are to:
- Prevent bushfires occurring or spreading by constructing new and maintaining established strategic fire trails and asset protection zones.
- Build rapid response capability and suppress fires and prevent their spread such as towers, remote sensing and camera technology to detect fires early.
- Improve tactical and operational response with additional fire tankers, equipment and infrastructure.
Who can apply?
Applicants who are invited to submit an application may apply if eligibility requirements are met. All applications will be assessed for eligibility and only eligible applications will be considered for funding.
What types of projects are eligible?
The projects must:
- Be located in the Local Government Areas administered by Snowy Valleys Council, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council, Greater Hume Council, Albury City and Wagga Wagga City Council.
Who administers the fund?
The fund is administered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
What is a closed (targeted), non-competitive grant?
In a targeted, non-competitive grant round, specific applicants are invited to submit applications that are assessed individually.

When do projects need to be completed by?
Projects must be completed by 31 December 2025., with final milestone to be claimed by 30 April 2025.
What supporting documentation needs to be provided with my application?
Supporting documents required include:
- Business case for projects over $500,000.
- Probity and confidentiality declaration.
- Waiver/consent where the project is undertaken on land not owned by the applicant.
If we have a waiver to allow the Rural Fire Service of NSW (RFS) to conduct activities on our land, can the RFS use that waiver for this grant if they were successful?
Yes. If a current waiver and/or consent applies to proposed works impacted by a project, the current documentation is sufficient.
What does ‘Projects must be’ mean?
Project costs are committed (e.g. invoices, purchase orders or signed quotes/MOUs) by 30 April 2025 with an expectation that project is fully completed and operational by 31 December 2025.
