Financial Summary

Funding of $16.8 million was drawn from the Trusts in 2020–21 to support a wide range of projects that improve recreational fishing. Revenue received in 2020–21 from fishing fees (licences) totalled $17.7 million (compared with $16.1 million in 2019–20).

The closing balance for the Trusts at 30 June 2021 was $20.6 million.

Licence Sales

A total of 474,517 recreational fishing licences (new and renewals) were sold during 2020–21 (compared with 429,177 in 2019–20). Recreational fishers purchased their licences though a variety of different channels in 2020-21, with online sales being the most popular option, accounting for 78% of sales.

Funds from the Recreational Fishing Trusts are used to support the administration of the recreational fishing licence fee and the management of the Trusts, including management of grants, to ensure transparent and accountable governance arrangements.
