Carbon source

The term carbon source refers to any process or activity that releases a greenhouse gas, an aerosol or a precursor of a greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.

Carbon sink

The term carbon sink is referred to as any process, activity or mechanism which removes a greenhouse gas, an aerosol or a precursor of a greenhouse gas from the atmosphere. The soil, vegetation or the ocean are carbon sinks.
