Hendra virus research (The HHALTER project)
HHALTER (Horse Owners and Hendra virus: A Longitudinal survey To Evaluate Risk) is the only nationally funded Hendra virus project that is focussed solely on people, namely horse owners and those who are involved with horses.
This project is being led by Mel Taylor at the University of Western Sydney in partnership with the University of Sydney, Biosecurity Queensland and Biosecurity NSW. It aims to ensure that ‘horse people’ are included at the centre of Hendra virus-related policy development and research. The project will be looking at changes to knowledge, attitudes, and practices over time, and therefore the research group is asking people to consider taking part in a series of five surveys – one every six months.
There will be some questions that are asked regularly, and also on new issues and things that ‘come up’ as the project progresses. The first survey has a focus on HENDRA VACCINATION and property management. Suggestions for issues that could be included in subsequent surveys are welcome.
