The last three months have been extremely busy with many days of end user workshops and detailed technical review. Staff at the site have been extremely generous with their time and the project team is grateful for their enthusiastic and professional approach.

Bea Duffield Project Director for major Infrastructure and Wayne Jorgensen Senior Principal Research Scientist from Queensland DPI visited EMAI in July to share their experiences with S&R BOM and EMAI staff. Bea is head of a major project building a 5 storey block of laboratories including PC3 & PC4 and PC2 greenhouses at the old Boggo Road Goal site. This project will bring together 1000 scientific staff across a range of disciplines. The EMAI Biosecurity Upgrade is now in the final stages of detailed design and four pre-qualified tenderers have been selected to undertake the Early Tenderers Involvement process run by NSW Commerce. This process provides prospective tenderers with a thorough understanding of the project to ensure they have enough information to make the tender as competitive as possible.

The Project team successfully took the project through a Gateway Pre-tender Review on Friday 11 September. This review is required by Treasury and is designed to ensure the project can deliver the key objectives of the business case, is still on track and within budget and that the procurement strategy is right for this project.

An early works package has been tendered and should be awarded before the end of September. This work involves preparing the main building site and undertaking flood mitigation work as well as electrical gas and hydraulic upgrades to the site.
