Friday 7 November, marks Tocal College Foundation Day, an annual celebration honouring the College’s opening and the legacy of the CB Alexander Foundation.
This year’s Foundation Day holds special significance, as Tocal College proudly celebrates 60 years of operation, a milestone reached earlier in 2025.
The anniversary highlights six decades of excellence in agricultural education, community engagement, and the enduring legacy of the CB Alexander Foundation.
NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (NSW DPIRD), Director Education Tocal College, Darren Bayley said foundation day is the chance to reflect upon the legacy of CB Alexander; the vision and drive of the late EA Hunt and the achievements of the College and Foundation.
“Foundation Day is a time to honour the foresight of CB Alexander and the late EA Hunt, whose efforts led to the establishment of the College,” Mr Bayley said.
“Foundation Day is a special opportunity to celebrate CB Alexander, whose generous bequest laid the groundwork for agricultural education at Tocal.
“We also acknowledge the determination of EA Hunt and the Presbyterian Church in securing the estate to establish the College, which has since grown into a leading institution for agricultural training.”
“The CB Alexander Foundation plays a vital role in supporting student scholarships, infrastructure and innovation at the College. It’s a legacy that continues to grow and evolve.”
Tocal College was officially opened on 5 November 1965 by then Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies, following CB Alexander’s donation of his Tocal estate for charitable purposes.
The CB Alexander Foundation Act 1969 later established the Foundation as a statutory authority under the NSW Department of Agriculture.
This year, Foundation Day sees a great line up of speakers focussing on the formation of the College and the enduring legacy that continues to shape the next generation of agricultural workforce. These speakers include:
- World renowned architect and academic Philip Cox,
- Former Principal Dr John Drinan AM,
- First field staff member Ray Muddle,
- Former student (1966/67) Allan Hunter,
- First female graduate (1972) Margaret Francis
Mr Bayley said Tocal College has a proud history of delivering practical, hands-on education that supports the agricultural sector and rural communities across NSW.
“Foundation Day is not just about looking back, it’s also about celebrating the people and partnerships that continue to shape our future,” Mr Bayley said.
“We’re excited to welcome guests to campus to share in this celebration and learn more about the story behind Tocal’s establishment and its ongoing impact.”
Tocal Foundation Day celebrations begin at 1:30pm and conclude at 3pm. The event will be held on campus, 815 Tocal Rd, Paterson NSW, 2421.
