On-ground works

On-ground works to protect and rehabilitate bank and riparian areas in estuaries are being undertaken in priority areas.

Each project has followed best practice rehabilitation design, focusing on sustainable, environmentally friendly methods. Works have incorporated:

• Use of natural materials to stabilise banks and reduce erosion
• Inclusion of aquatic habitat features to support native fish and macroinvertebrate populations
• Replanting with native, locally endemic vegetation to restore natural riparian structure
• Fencing to exclude livestock and prevent ongoing bank degradation.

These projects are designed to improve water quality, estuarine and riparian habitat and also to improve resilience to future flood events.

Completed Project Sites

On-ground rehabilitation works are currently underway at sites along Nambucca River, Limeburners Creek and Wapengo Creek (Wapengo Lake) and have been successfully delivered at the following locations:

• Dombarton Creek (Illawarra catchment)
• Yowaka River (Pambula Lake)
• Towamba River.
