Animal Research Amendment (Prohibition of Forced Swim Tests & Forced Smoke Inhalation Experiments) Act 2024
On 25 March 2024, the Animal Research Amendment (Prohibition of Forced Swim Tests and Forced Smoke Inhalation Experiments) Act 2024 (the Amendment Act) came into effect, amending the Animal Research Act 1985.
This legislation prohibits the use of forced swim tests and forced smoke inhalation experiments in animal research within NSW. The Amendment Act included transitional arrangements for ongoing research projects with existing animal research authorities as of the commencement date.
