Aboriginal Fisheries Business Development Program

The Aboriginal Fisheries Business Development Program, led by the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (NSW DPIRD) with partners, supports new economically viable fisheries businesses owned and managed by Aboriginal community organisations in NSW. Developed in consultation with the Aboriginal Fishing Advisory Council, it delivers broader community benefits through employment, training and economic empowerment while building on successful models from other Australian jurisdictions.

NSW Aboriginal Aquaculture Strategy

The NSW Aboriginal Aquaculture Strategy is a comprehensive plan for sustainable aquaculture development that respects Aboriginal cultural and environmental values, particularly the deep connection to water and Country. It focuses on key areas including strengthening Aboriginal roles in water management, increasing access to and ownership of water resources, ensuring respectful representation and partnerships, and protecting cultural rights to water access and management. Developed collaboratively between the NSW Government and Aboriginal communities, it delivers cultural, social, environmental, and economic benefits while supporting self-determination and long-term community aspirations.
