The Richmond River Cultural Restoration Strategy identified the importance of the Nyangbul clan totem - the Gwandi (dolphin). NEAP Aboriginal coastal heritage assets funded an important  partnership between Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council rangers and Dolphin Research Australia to investigate the impacts of the 2022 flood event on the abundance and associated behaviour of the Richmond River dolphin population.
