Biography

Prof Matt Taylor is Principal Research Scientist and Program Leader—Recreational Fisheries Research with the New South Wales (NSW) Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

Matt is a marine recreational fisheries scientist working across a spectrum of contemporary recreational fisheries research areas, but with a career-long specialisation in applied ecological research supporting fisheries enhancement and restoration. Matt leads a team of 5 Senior Research Scientists and has authored 214 peer-reviewed contributions to international journals. Taylor’s work provides the scientific basis for evidence-based management of recreational fisheries in NSW, including stocking, habitat repair and enhancement, regulations and controls, and advice to protect fisher health.
