He takes a multidisciplinary approach to his research, combining methods such as telemetry, genetics, mark-recapture, hydroacoustics, underwater camera surveys and runs a growing citizen science program. Prior to joining DPI, Alistair spent several years undertaking research on estuarine fish ecology, which he conducted both in Australia and South Africa, and is a topic on which he continues to work. He collaborates with colleagues from a number of universities and government departments, and supervisors post-graduate students.
