Mission Biosecurity | Department of Primary Industries

Mission Biosecurity was a national collaboration between the Australian Government and state and territory agriculture departments. Key partners included the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Agriculture Victoria, Primary Industries and Regions South Australia, the Tasmanian Government, WA Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, the ACT Government and the former Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

Proudly partnering with Costa Georgiadis from ABC’s Gardening Australia, the campaign created a suite of engaging digital and interactive resources to highlight the importance of strong biosecurity.

Led by NSW DPIRD on behalf of all jurisdictions, the campaign promoted a nationally consistent message about shared responsibility for biosecurity and celebrated the role of scientists, farmers and communities in protecting Australia.

Launched in 2020, Mission Biosecurity was a national digital engagement campaign that ran until the project website was retired in 2025.

What was the aim of Mission Biosecurity?

Mission Biosecurity aimed to increase public awareness and understanding of biosecurity and to encourage everyday Australians to take action to prevent the spread of pests, diseases and weeds.

The campaign sought to:

promote a nationally consistent biosecurity message across all Australian jurisdictions
educate the public about what biosecurity is and why it’s essential to Australia’s environment, economy and communities
showcase the work of government agencies, scientists and industry partners in managing biosecurity risks
engage audiences digitally through accessible, interactive tools like videos, podcasts, games and quizzes, making learning about biosecurity fun and relatable.
