What is an ePHAC and how is it different to a handwritten PHAC?
An ePHAC (Electronic Plant Health Assurance Certificate) is a digital version of the traditional handwritten PHAC. It’s completed and stored online, reducing manual errors, improving legibility, and making it easier to share and retrieve during audits or inspections.
Do I need special software or equipment to use ePHACS?
No special software is required. ePHACs are accessed through a secure online platform using a standard web browser on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Can I access ePHACs on mobile devices or in the field?
Yes. As long as you have internet access, you can log in and use ePHACs from mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.
Is training available for businesses transitioning to ePHACs?

Are ePHACs accepted by all packhouses and exporters?
Most packhouses and exporters accept ePHACs. If in doubt, it’s always best to quickly confirm with your trading partners.
How is data stored and protected in the ePHAC system?
All data is securely stored in the cloud with controlled access. The system uses encryption and secure login protocols to protect your information.
Can I still issue handwritten PHACs if I use ePHACs occasionally?
Yes. While ePHACs are encouraged for efficiency and compliance, you can still issue handwritten PHACs if needed.
What happens if I lose internet access - can I still issue a certificate?
You’ll need an internet connection to issue and submit an ePHAC. If you’re in a low-connectivity area, it’s best to plan ahead or use handwritten PHACs as a backup.

Is a printed copy of the ePHAC required to accompany the consignment?
Yes. A printed copy should accompany the consignment to ensure it can be reviewed during transport or inspection. The certificate is downloaded in PDF format that can be easily printed.
The system will email a certified copy of the original ePHAC to the accredited business, the consignee and the State DPI in the consignee state for records. Though a printed copy of the certificate should ALWAYS accompany the physical consignment
How much does it cost?
Upon registration, your business may begin submitting certificate requests through the ePHAC system at a current cost of $2.30 + GST per certificate.
