Under the NSW State Emergency and Rescue Management Act and the NSW State Emergency Management Plan, our role includes:

• acting as the NSW combat agency for biosecurity emergencies resulting from animal, plant, aquatic pest and disease incursions
• acting as the NSW combat agency for food safety-related emergencies
• supporting all NSW combat agencies when agriculture and animals (excluding wildlife) are impacted, as the Agriculture and Animal Services Functional Area (AASFA).

We provide systems, resources and tools to help manage emergencies and build safer, stronger communities. This includes training and exercises for emergency responders.

Together with our partner organisations, we deliver agricultural, animal and community support during emergencies by:

• helping primary producers and animal owners prepare for emergencies
• coordinating support during emergencies affecting animals and plants, including animal welfare
• providing recovery assistance to primary producers after emergencies.
