NSW Dairy Farm Monitor Project

The NSW Dairy Farm Monitor Project (DFMP) is a joint initiative between the NSW DPIRD and Dairy Australia and was first delivered in NSW in the 2011/12 financial year. It is a long-running project delivered by the Dairy Business Advisory Unit which provides farmers, government and the broader dairy industry with valuable information on the profitability, productivity and performance for a range of farms across New South Wales. Individual participating farms receive a detailed report on their profitability and the data is used anonymously to understand how farmers manage the internal and external business conditions over the financial year as well as providing trends in performance over time.
Each year, an annual project report (PDF, 651.95 KB) is produced summarising the impacts on profitability from the group of businesses that participated in the project. This is presented as an overall average of the group, and then further split into a regional analysis of North and South (PDF, 407.21 KB). Alternatively, check out the Interactive DFMP Report also available on this website, which is an easy to view, visual summary of each year’s results.
The quality DFMP data is used as comparative data in DairyBase, a free online dairy business analysis tool developed by Dairy Australia. Measure your own farm business’s performance by using DairyBase or the Farm Business Snapshot (requires less physical farm data) to find areas of strength or potential areas for improvement. These tools enable you to understand your production costs and overall profitability. If used annually, these are great tools for reviewing your business and helping you make informed decisions.
Online interactive (visual) DFMP report
This web-based tool provides a visual snapshot of the NSW DFMP performance data over the lifetime of the project. It enables filtering to view the results for different years for the group of farms as a whole or by region (North or South).

Long-term trends in NSW DFMP data
