Community amenity

Nuisances are exacerbated by frequency, strength and duration of exposure. A well sited, maintained and managed dairy farm will limit all 3 while operating a highly efficient system.
Noise, odour, dust and light transmission to sensitive receptors are affected by contributing factors such as weather conditions, local topography and physical barriers. Sensitivity is also influenced by factors including the attitude of the community towards the facility and the time of day when activities happen especially if they happen during night, early morning or evening periods. Appropriate management of amenity impacts prevents:

• complaints against dairy systems from located sensitive receptors
• disturbance to local wildlife (for example, noise or lighting disturbing flight paths) or the environment upon which they rely for food and shelter
