For example, the adoption of automatic milking systems (AMS) over the last decade has improved the efficiency and profitability of dairy farms across the State. More recently, many landowners and managers are adopting new technologies and approaches to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the risks of extreme weather and natural disaster events.

NSW DPIRD and the Dairy Unit are committed to increasing awareness and supporting successful adoption of AMS in Australia. To assist farmers and make transition easier, we have delivered several projects and created tools to help you understand the value and benefits of this technology.
Automatic Milking Systems learning modules
A series of 8 AMS learning modules are available on Dairy Australia’s Enlight platform. They aim to preserve and expand the knowledge and technical capacity around AMS within the Australian Dairy Industry.

AMS KPI Project
The Dairy Unit established the AMS Key Performance Indicators (KPI) Project to help capture the performance and productivity possible under commercial AMS operations. Participating farmers were monitored on a monthly basis.
