DPIRD's role in dairy

To keep our industry resilient, The NSW Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development (DPIRD) Dairy Unit is responsible for programs, information and administration that relates to the state’s dairy industry.

We also provide support and resources for industry to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and natural disasters.

Working alongside dairy producers, processing facilities, and service providers, we deliver research, development and adoption programs that support a profitable, resilient, and sustainable NSW dairy industry.

The Dairy Unit’s primary focus is on farm business management, innovation, technology and industry sustainability. The team also supports policy development, risk management and emergency response. This is guided by our dairy unit strategy, which provides clear ambition and direction for a successful and profitable sector.
