Farm Resources Drought API

Drought API

The Drought API (Application Programming Interface) was funded as part of the Future Ready Regions EDIS Development project. The aim was to develop an API that could be integrated into other platforms and evaluate the usefulness of the API for the broader community.

The API was developed in conjunction with Intersect Australia, to support 3rd party provider access to a selection of the underlying data from the Enhanced Drought Information System. It currently provides improved access to the underlying data produced by EDIS to visualise the Combined Drought Indicator (CDI) and the parish Drought Timeseries charts.

The Department’s initial trial integration of the API involved a collaboration with Federation University’s Centre for eResearch and Digital Innovation (CeRDI) to demonstrate embedding the NSW Combined Drought Indicator and timeseries charts into the publicly available My Farm Dashboard platform.

If you are interested in accessing the API, please contact seasonal.conditions@dpird.nsw.gov.au

Integration of the API

My Farm Dashboard

The Combined Drought Indicator has been integrated into the My Farm Dashboard platform. Find out more about My Farm Dashboard here.

My Farm Dashboard is a decision-making tool that links users to a variety of data sources to help make informed farm management decisions. Using My Farm Dashboard requires users to open an account and select their location. Once the account is set up, users can choose from a range of relevant real time information cards to display on their customisable dashboard.

The information cards include information on pasture estimates from satellite imagery, real time commodity price information, soil moisture data, seasonal forecast and recent weather records. Please note, there are locations in NSW where some of the information is not currently available.

Some information displayed is free to use. Other farm level information may require subscribing to the service. Visit the My Farm Dashboard website for more information about the product.
